Dress Code
The purpose of the dress code is to create a standard for students that is both fair and appropriate and meets the test of reasonableness, changing tastes and styles, common sense and self-respect.
  1. Gang-related apparel is hazardous to the health and safety of everyone in the school environment. In order to provide a safe educational environment, the following attire is not allowed at Dorsey.
A: SAGGING PANTS:
  • Pants sagging below the waist that cannot remain at the waist without a belt
  • Pants sagging below the hips with attached waist-fitted boxer underwear
B: APPAREL CONTAINING GANG WRITING OR NEGATIVE DISPLAYED EMBLEMS
  • Excessive amounts of red or blue clothing, including shades of red such as burgundy, maroon and powder blue. No red/blue shoestrings.
C: Any clothing deemed inappropriate or which reduces the level of safety on campus. This includes "hoodies" worn over the head.
  • Dorsey students demonstrate high standards of grooming. In order to maintain these standards, Dorsey students do not wear:

    • Hats or any other type of head covering including visors or scarves; wave caps or hoodies. Only Dorsey hats are allowed.
    • Gang-related hairstyles, i.e. Puffs, shaved gang insignia or tattoo on scalp.
In order to eliminate distractions and maximize safety, students must adhere to the following:
  • No sexually suggestive or demonic messages/drawings on their bodies or personal item.,
  • No T-shirts/blouses/earrings or other jewelry with marijuana plants printed on them, or any clothing advertising drugs, alcohol or tobacco or negative writings
  • No bandeau tops, tube tops, halter-tops, sheer blouses, or any other attire that exposes excessive flesh, including hip-huggers, midriffs, and short shorts.
  • No inappropriate foot coverings, e.g. socks and slippers. Students are not allowed to go barefoot on campus.
  • No electronic equipment, i.e. pagers, chirpers, cell phones
  • No loitering on campus: students will be fined
  • No weapons of any kind: nothing that may be construed as a weapon is allowed
Any Students who does not comply with our rules or dress code will be directed to the Dean's Office. Students in violation of the dress code will be given an opportunity to change clothes in order to remain at school. Deans will use progressive discipline in dealing with school rule infractions
